The Population Council conducts research worldwide to improve policies, programs, and products in three areas: HIV and AIDS; poverty, gender, and youth; and reproductive health.

HIV and AIDS

The goal of the Council's HIV and AIDS program is ambitious: to arrest the spread of the HIV epidemic in developing countries and to enable people to mitigate or eliminate the impact of HIV on their own health, and on their families, communities, and societies. (more)

Poverty, Gender, and Youth

Through the Poverty, Gender, and Youth program, Population Council staff members seek to understand the social dimensions of poverty, the determinants and consequences of gender inequality, the disparities that arise during adolescence, and the critical elements of a successful transition to adulthood in developing countries. Reproductive Health

Staff affiliated with the Population Council’s Reproductive Health program focus on improving sexual and reproductive health outcomes—especially for disadvantaged populations in developing countries—through the development and introduction of appropriate technologies, assistance to policymakers in formulating evidence-based policies, and innovations in service delivery.
