AFRICA
Guinea

Family planning clinics were introduced in Conakry, the capital of Guinea in 1983, and, since then, services have been expanded throughout the country. In 1997, the Ministry of Health initiated a five-year program to strengthen activities in reproductive health and sexually transmitted infections including HIV/AIDS.

The Population Council conducted a situation analysis to collect data in all of the service delivery points offering family planning services as well as in several clinics that provide maternal and child health services.

The study results were used to develop national health programs such as Programme National de Développement Sanitaire. The findings, which were disseminated at a national workshop, were also used to improve the quality of health services in Guinea.
