Population Council research in Uganda focuses on efforts to
improve the quality of
reproductive health care.
Testing a New Approach for Assisting
AIDS-affected Orphans
This study from the
Population Council's Horizons
program and research partners assessed the impact of community-based orphan-support interventions on the
physical, mental, material, and educational status of children affected by HIV/AIDS. In
addition, the study examined a modified approach, in which children were
targeted before the
death of a parent. The researchers sought to determine if the pre-death
contact was more beneficial for children than a post-mortem engagement.
Building the Capacity of a
Regional Health Center
Working with Makerere University, the Council
is helping to build the capacity of the Regional Centre for Quality of Health Care. Staff
will design and teach short courses in economic evaluation of reproductive health
programs; design and teach two modules of the diploma course in quality of care; and
provide technical assistance to the Centre in developing dissemination and communication
activities.
