BIOMEDICINE
Reproductive Biology and Immunology

Population Council biomedical scientists undertake fundamental research in the reproductive sciences and immunological processes related to sexually transmitted infections, particularly HIV, in order to expand the knowledge base upon which applied research and successful product development are built.

The two major areas of research are:

  • clarification of the cellular and molecular mechanisms of male reproduction, which may lead to new contraceptive methods for men; and
  • the role of immune system cells known as dendritic cells in immunodeficiency virus infection.
