Overview
The Council has conducted research in the Dominican Republic since 1996. Past research and programs have included a range of studies to increase access to and improve the quality of reproductive health care in the Dominican Republic.
There are no current projects in the Dominican Republic; the last project ended in 2008.
Highlights of past work
- Documented conditional cash transfer programs (CCTs) to identify possible opportunities to improve links between CCTs and reproductive health programs and to assess potential roles for operations research within these programs.
- Assessed the integration of family planning services within services for postpartum care, postabortion care, and prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV (PMTCT) in hospitals and health centers run by the Dominican government and the nonprofit organization Profamilia.
- Identified and studied the factors behind “successful” condom users (those who used condoms correctly and consistently) in order to assess ways of developing positive and creative condom promotion strategies.
