FRONTIERS PROJECT
Transferring Ghana's System of Evidence-based Health Program Development: Program for an Initial Exchange with Sierra Leone and Burkina Faso

FRONTIERS and the Navrongo Health Research Centre organized a week-long forum for exchanging understanding about the Navrongo project (see "Navrongo Community Health and Family Planning Project") in northern Ghana. The Navrongo project, a long-term, multiphase study, identified ways of deploying community health nurses and mobilizing community leadership to increase contraceptive use and improve maternal and child health. In May 2005, health officials from Sierra Leone and the Burkina Faso Ministry of Health attended the forum, along with representatives from donor and international agencies, and discussed ways of applying lessons from the Navrongo study to their health care systems. Participants formed a working group dedicated to developing, testing, and sharing approaches for improving community health among and beyond the three countries.
