FRONTIERS PROJECT This project is designed to address the rapid rise in HIV incidence among antenatal clients. The intervention, to be implemented with the USAID-supported Partnership for Family-Centered HIV Programs, will test the feasibility and effect of a strengthened postpartum care program. The study will introduce a postpartum care package including syphilis screening and management; HIV testing, counseling, and PMTCT; discussion of postpartum family planning choices; and discussion of prevention of sexually transmitted infections, including HIV. In addition, the approach will include three postpartum visits—at 24 hours, one week, and six weeks. The program will be tested at Mafeteng Hospital, a major hospital that already is providing PMTCT services.
