FRONTIERS PROJECT
Improving Communication About Reproductive Health in Families with Adolescents

FRONTIERS and the Centre for Development and Population Activities (CEDPA) conducted an intervention to enhance communication between parents and their children on values, expectations, and reproductive health issues. The project created a supportive environment for discussion through community advocacy; creation of community advisory boards including parents, youth, local leaders, and government representatives; and organization of educational activities and outreach. The main intent of outreach is to increase young people’s awareness of the risks entailed in sexual activity and to inform them about protective measures. Researchers surveyed both parents and adolescents to assess improvements in the quality of communication resulting from the intervention.
