FRONTIERS PROJECT FRONTIERS worked with researchers from the Center for Training and Research in Reproductive Health (CEFOREP), the Population Training Group (GEEP), and the Ministries of Health, Education, and Youth to test community, school, and clinic interventions to improve adolescents’ understanding of reproductive health, delay the onset of sexual activity, and increase young people’s access to reproductive health services. Results show that boys and girls were equally affected by the intervention, but older youth aged 15–19 were more exposed than those aged 10–14. The proportion of youth reporting knowledge about contraceptive methods rose by about 10 percent after the intervention. The proportion of youth reporting sexual activity during the last six months decreased from 48 percent to 36 percent. The Ministry of Health (MOH) developed a plan to sustain and scale up elements of the model in other districts. The World Health Organization (WHO)/Senegal and the MOH are providing financial support to sustain activities in intervention areas. This project has been scaled up (see Enhancing Utilization of the Findings from the Youth Reproductive Health Project).
