FRONTIERS PROJECT
Impact of Client Communication Training on Client Participation and Contraceptive Continuation

Working with the Indonesia Ministry of Health and Population, the Johns Hopkins University Center for Communication Programs tested the acceptability and effectiveness of introducing the “Smart Patient” concept, in which family planning clients are coached to ask more questions and increase their interaction with providers. The Smart Patient intervention lasts less than 20 minutes, is acceptable to clients and providers, and may be feasible to conduct in groups.
