FRONTIERS PROJECT
Using Community Workers to Improve Men’s Reproductive Health Awareness in the Philippines

FRONTIERS, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, partnered with the Research Institute for Mindanao Culture to test an intervention in which community-based workers sought to improve men’s understanding of reproductive health and foster increased communication between husbands and wives. The intervention resulted in significantly improved communication between husbands and wives, but did not significantly change their family planning use. The nongovernmental organization KAANIB, which works with small farmers and beneficiaries of agrarian reform in Bukidnon Province, is incorporating the project’s strategy into its mission.
