FRONTIERS PROJECT
Dissemination of Research on Female Genital Cutting

The Population Council and the FRONTIERS program have become known as a leader in research on interventions to encourage abandonment of female genital mutilation and cutting (FGM/C), conducting numerous research projects and evaluations throughout Africa. While the results of these studies have been widely disseminated at the country level, the findings of the studies have wider implications for reproductive health care—for example, the impact of FGM/C on safe motherhood policies and programs.

Through this project, FRONTIERS supported policy- and program-related initiatives to eliminate FGM/C by communicating findings from studies on FGM/C to major audiences in countries where the prevalence is high, conducting a consultative meeting on methodological issues on the practice, and collaborating with numerous organizations to encourage the elimination of FGM/C and other harmful traditional practices.
