FRONTIERS PROJECT
Scaling Up a Successful Counseling Model

This project, a collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Guatemalan Association of Female Physicians (AGMM), built upon the successful counseling model developed in Peru and modified in Guatemala. The implementation included training of 200 trainers and over 3,000 providers in the Guatemala MOH and the Guatemalan Institute of Social Security, which together provide services to over 12,000 postpartum and postabortion clients annually. Six supervisors provided technical assistance to nurses monitoring service providers, observed three to five counseling sessions per trainee, and provided in-service training.
