FRONTIERS PROJECT
Expansion of the Role of Nurse Auxiliaries in the Provision of Family Planning Services

FRONTIERS and the Ministry of Health (MOH) examined the feasibility of training nurse auxiliaries, who staff rural health centers, to provide intrauterine devices (IUDs), injectable contraceptives (DMPA), and Pap tests. The project documented the acceptability and feasibility of training nurse auxiliaries to give DMPA injections. Recommendations included including training for the delivery of services in auxiliary nursing school curriculums, exam requirements, and MOH/nongovernmental organization job descriptions.
