Horizons Program—Adherence and Sexual Risk Behavior Among HIV-positive Patients Receiving Antiretroviral Therapy in Delhi and Pune, India
Overview
The study sought to assess levels of adherence to treatment among clients receiving highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART), and to measure levels of risk behavior in the presence of HAART. The study was implemented in the towns of Delhi and Pune in India. Partners in the study included Ruby Hall Clinic, Grant Medical Foundation, Poona Medical Research Foundation, ESIC Hospital, Northern Railway Hospital, the Institute for Economic Growth, and the Horizons Program. Methodology/validity
The survey instrument was developed with inputs from local researchers, and was pre-tested with a number of Marathi and Hindi speaking clients taking HAART at one of the participating clinics. The survey was based on validated questionnaires used in AIDS Clinical Trials Group studies, and was administered in Hindi and Marathi. Questions that address depression come from the Beck Depression Inventory.
