Horizons Program—Evaluating the Impact of HIV Prevention Programs in Thai Schools

Overview
This survey was designed by Horizons with PATH Bangkok and the Thai Department of Education, and conducted at schools across Thailand. The study investigated the effect of school-based programs on safe behavior among students, and their knowledge and attitudes about HIV/AIDS. The survey instrument is implemented using audio computer-assisted self-interviewing (audio-CASI) techniques.

Methodology/validity
The survey instrument went through three stages of pre-testing. In the first stage the audio-CASI format was the focus. In the second stage the focus was on the internal validity of responses, and was conducted with over 100 students. The final stage of pre-testing used focus groups to gain an understanding of student’s perceptions of the questions. Survey questions were primarily drawn from a number of surveys that had been fielded in Thailand and in other countries.
