Horizons Program—Evaluating and Accrediting Workplace AIDS Programs in Thailand

Overview
Designed in partnership with the Horizons Program, Thailand Business Coalition on AIDS (TBCA), and American International Assurance (AIA), this survey was conducted at the workplaces of 150 companies registered within the coalition. The purpose of this survey is to help companies understand what benefits will be obtained from the introduction of their own HIV/AIDS policy program and how the AIDS epidemic will impact the company’s operation. Questions are largely quantitative, with a few exceptions. Items investigate a wide range of issues regarding the company’s existing HIV/AIDS policy. The respondent is required to be a representative of the company, who can speak on behalf of the company. The survey examines how the HIV/AIDS policy affects its employees over broad settings such as community participation, as well as how it affects expenditures.

Methodology/validity
The survey instrument was extensively field-tested with management of companies in two industrial areas close to Bangkok. Survey questions were designed in conjunction with representative of companies and AIA. The survey instrument was developed, pre-tested, and administered in the Thai language. The instrument was designed to be administered by a trained interviewer.
