MEASURE Evaluation—PERFORM System of Indicators Survey

Overview
The PERFORM System of Indicators Survey covered  populations of currently married women between the ages of 13 and 49 and public and private health facilities and providers in 29 districts of Uttar Pradesh, India. The PERFORM Survey was designed to provide representative estimates of the levels and patterns of contraceptive practice and service delivery for 28 districts, 14 divisions, five regions, and the state. The survey was one part of an overall monitoring and evaluation effort for the Innovations in Family Planning Services (IFPS) Project in Uttar Pradesh. The objective of the survey was to provide baseline estimates for performance benchmarks related to IFPS’s three main purposes, which were to:

  • Increase access to family planning services.

  • Improve the quality of those services.

  • Increase the demand for family planning services.

Methodology/validity
This survey concluded that wife abuse is fairly common in northern India, and that the abusive sexual behaviors of the men may result in an elevated rate of unplanned pregnancies. For additional information, please link to the MEASURE Evaluation Web site (offsite link).
