The ABCs and Beyond: Developing an Operations Research Agenda on Comprehensive Behavior Change Approaches for HIV Prevention
Help focus and refine the global discussion on the prevention of HIV transmission and develop research priorities for effective behavior change and risk reduction strategies with an emphasis on what have been called the "ABC" behaviors (abstinence or delaying sex; being faithful, or partner reduction; and condom use).

Male Circumcision and the Acquisition and Transmission of HIV
Review current knowledge about male circumcision with the aim of establishing future priorities for research.

HIV/AIDS Peer Education: Past Experience, Future Directions
Increase understanding of the key factors associated with effective peer education programs through a literature review and a consultation with HIV/AIDS peer education experts.

Access to Treatment for HIV/AIDS
Explore issues of access to antiretroviral (ARV) treatment in the developing world and examine the experiences of countries that have made progress in implementing ARV programs (e.g., Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Uganda, Brazil, and Thailand).

Assisting Program Managers in Allocating HIV/AIDS Resources
Identify, develop, field-test and disseminate tools and materials that can be used to assist program managers in making effective resource allocation decisions.
Partner: The Futures Group

Increasing Coverage of Successful NGO Responses to HIV/AIDS
Identify lessons learned, devise new conceptual frameworks and definitions, and articulate a research agenda at an international seminar culminating in a publication on scaling up NGO programs.
Partners: International HIV/AIDS Alliance, Tulane University; participants included faith-based organizations such as Family AIDS Caring Trust (Zambia) and the Salvation Army (global)

Promoting the Utilization of Research Results in Order to Improve HIV/AIDS Programs
Develop, implement, and evaluate a course curriculum that increases the capacity of HIV/AIDS program managers in east and southern Africa to utilize research findings.
Partner:  Regional AIDS Training Network

Research Findings on the Male Condom
Review research findings about the utilization of the male condom for disease and/or pregnancy prevention.
Partner: Frontiers Program

Dissemination of Factsheets on Reproductive Tract Infections
Disseminate a set of factsheets on RTIs and assess their utility by key French- and Spanish-speaking audiences.

Current Issues in HIV Counseling and Testing
Conduct a workshop to define barriers and opportunities for designing counseling and testing services in south and east Asia as well as identify priority research needs.
Partner:  FHI/IMPACT

AIDS Stigma and Discrimination:  Defining the Problem and Identifying Strategies
Develop a conceptual framework for addressing stigma, discrimination, and denial (SD&D), compile an inventory of existing interventions to reduce SD&D, and build consensus for approaching the problem.
Partners: San Francisco State University, Tulane University
