Satellite Session 10—Translating Research into Action: Experience of Scaling Up Best Practices in India
Tuesday, 30 October
5:15–6:45 pm

Sponsor: Population Council/FRONTIERS

Chairperson: Monique Mosolf (Health Officer, Office of Population, Health, and Nutrition, USAID India, New Delhi)

Rapporteur: Sitanshu Kar (Program Officer, FRONTIERS)

With shrinking research funding and increasing demand from donors to enhance the utilization of research results, the need for scaling up of best practices is gaining momentum. Indeed, it is posing a challenge for researchers and program managers. The session will focus on successful experiments in South Asia and steps taken to create conditions for scaling up interventions. Operations research carried out in India and Bangladesh and efforts to upscale these at the national and state levels provide important insights on how successful interventions can be scaled up effectively.

Speakers

  • Sharif Mohammed Ismail Hossain: "Introducing and scaling up of emergency contraception in Bangladesh"
  • M.E. Khan: "Scaling up of systematic screening procedure in Gujarat and Uttaranchal"
  • Ismat Bhuiya: "Scaling up a reproductive health curriculum in youth training centers in Bangladesh"
  • Anurag Mishra: "Scaling up a quality assurance program in Gujarat and six other states in India"
