Trial Shows Anti-HIV Microbicide Is
Safe, but Does Not Prove It Effective
The results of the Phase 3 Carraguard® trial have been
announced. The trial did not show that Carraguard is effective in preventing
HIV transmission during vaginal sex, but it was shown to be safe for use
during vaginal sex over a two-year period. (18 February)
