Has the HIV Epidemic Peaked?
The Council's John Bongaarts is the lead author on an article in the peer-reviewed Population and Development Review. The main finding of this analysis is that the HIV epidemic reached a major turning point over the past decade. (26 June)

Trial Shows Anti-HIV Microbicide Is Safe, but Does Not Prove It Effective 
The results of the Phase 3 Carraguard® trial have been announced. The trial did not show that Carraguard is effective in preventing HIV transmission during vaginal sex, but it was shown to be safe for use during vaginal sex over a two-year period. (18 February)
