MEDIA CENTER Lynn A. Foster of New York City Elected to NEW YORK (8 January 2004) — Lynn A. Foster, a successful financial professional who has been a volunteer leader of several major non-profit organizations, was elected to the Population Council’s board of trustees at its December 2003 meeting. “The addition of Foster to the board is a real plus,” said Council President Linda Martin. “Her high-level management experience in both the business and philanthropic worlds and her substantive knowledge of health, environment, and youth development issues will be invaluable.” Foster has an M.B.A. in finance and organizational behavior from Boston University and began her career with positions focusing on investment and health care at the New England Merchants National Bank, the John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company, and Smith Barney Harris Upham & Company. For 18 years subsequently, she was a consultant to Foster Management Company, a private venture capital firm specializing in health care investments. From 1996 to 1999, she was senior vice president and director of investment research at Ashbridge Investment Management in Philadelphia. Foster has a keen interest in conservation and since 1993 has been a trustee of the World Wildlife Fund. She also has demonstrated her commitment to improving the lives of young people, having been elected president of the Girl Scout Council of Greater New York and to the national board of the Girl Scouts of America. Foster’s other volunteer activities have included service as a trustee of the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Franklin Institute Science Museum in Philadelphia, and Connecticut College, and as a member of the advisory board of the University of Pennsylvania’s Institute for Human Gene Therapy. On the Population Council’s board, Foster joins 17 men and women from nine countries—Ethiopia, Germany, India, Japan, Jordan, Kenya, Mexico, Sweden, and the United States. Rodney B. Wagner, retired vice chair of the board for J.P. Morgan Chase, and Elizabeth J. McCormack of Rockefeller Associates are chairman and vice chairman, respectively.
