Young women with university degrees are five times more likely to be unemployed than young men in Egypt, according to new Population Council research on gender disparity in access to higher education.
Daily News Egypt reported on a recent roundtable hosted by the Population Council in Cairo focused on education in the country, and featuring insights from Council president Julia Bunting and Egypt country director Nahla Abdel Tawab.
"We talk about enabling young women to make a healthy transition to adulthood. When you think about the needs of a 10-year-old girl and what she will need at 16, it’s really about how to give her the capital, the skills, the knowledge, the agency that she needs… to become a productive member of society, in whatever ways she chooses," Bunting said.
