NPR: Insights on Stopping the HIV Epidemic Among Adolescent Girls and Young Women

NPR reports on the persistence of the HIV epidemic despite extensive efforts to curb new infections.  The Council’s Julie Pulerwitz notes that efforts to prevent HIV have not been successful in reaching some of the most vulnerable populations.

Pulerwitz highlights the urgent need to target HIV prevention to adolescent girls and young women, particularly in South and east Africa.

"This part of Africa has the largest epidemic [globally] in terms of numbers and as many as 7,000 new infections among young women a week."
