NEW YORK (12 December 2016) — The Population Council announces the appointment of two new board members: Ms. Wanda Olson, who has over three decades of experience with the international law firm of Cleary Gottlieb, and Mr. Jonathan H. Kagan, an internationally recognized finance expert who serves as Managing Principal at Corporate Partners LLC.

They bring with them deep expertise in law, finance and strategic leadership. The Council is proud to have them on our distinguished board and we look forward to their valuable contributions.”
Wanda Olson’s legal career has focused on domestic and international finance, including public offerings and private placements of debt and equity securities, commercial bank lending, project finance and merger and acquisition finance. She is best known for her representation of foreign governments and state-owned entities in restructuring their bank debt and in financing, refinancing and managing their capital markets debt. Ms. Olson has been recognized for her expertise by various legal publications and has mentored many younger attorneys, including dozens of foreign lawyers with whom she worked over the years. Ms. Olson received her undergraduate degree in international relations from The Johns Hopkins University in 1978 and her law degree from NYU Law School in 1981. She is a member of the Bar in New York.
Mr. Kagan is a Managing Principal of Corporate Partners. Previously, Mr. Kagan was a Managing Director of Corporate Partners I, which he joined in 1990, and of Centre Partners Management LLC, which managed the Centre Capital funds. He began his career in the investment banking division of Lazard in 1980 and became a General Partner in 1987. At Lazard, Mr. Kagan helped head the corporate finance and capital markets areas. He is or has been a member of the board of directors of a number of NYSE- and NASDAQ-listed companies and private companies. Mr. Kagan received a D.Litt. and M.A. from Oxford University and an A.B., from Harvard College.
The new trustees join 18 other women and men from eight countries, who are experts in global health, development, HIV and AIDS, family planning, population, education, law, economic, finance and communications.
