Sharif Mohammed Ismail Hossain, deputy director of the Council-led Ending Eclampsia project, wrote about the current state of pre-eclampsia/eclampsia prevention and treatment for the Maternal Health Task Force Blog.
Pre-eclampsia/eclampsia are the two leading causes of maternal deaths globally. Ending eclampsia seeks to expand access to proven, underutilized interventions and commodities for the prevention, early detection, and treatment of pre-eclampsia and eclampsia and to strengthen global partnerships.
“Despite these challenges, the international development and public health communities want to eliminate preventable maternal and newborn deaths and are dedicating funds to implementation research and advocacy. Ensuring that women with pre-eclampsia have access to necessary treatments is vital for preventing eclampsia and ultimately averting preventable maternal deaths.”
