The Lancet HIV: Eileen Yam and Amy Tsui on Integrating HIV and SRHR Services for HIV-positive Adolescent Girls and Young Women

A new Lancet HIV commentary by Population Council associate Eileen Yam highlights the importance of addressing the family planning needs of HIV-positive adolescent girls and young women.

Despite the expanding global efforts focused on HIV prevention for girls and young women, the sexual and reproductive health and rights of girls and women living with HIV are being largely overlooked by the international HIV community, the authors assert. The commentary is co-authored with Amy Ong Tsui, Professor and Senior Scholar at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and a member of the Population Council Board of Trustees.

“At a time when the international development community is placing an emphasis on HIV among adolescent girls and young women, family planning—as well as sexual and reproductive health and rights writ large—must be incorporated into this programming in a gender-specific and age-appropriate manner.”
