JOB DESCRIPTION

The Population Council’s Center for Biomedical Research seeks a statistician with statistical programming experience. S/he will be responsible for the development, standardization, implementation, and maintenance of statistical programs as well as the performance of statistical analyses for HIV microbicides Phase 1–3 clinical trials and for HIV behavioral clinical research. In addition to supervising junior programming and/or database staff, the statistician will work closely with the Council’s scientific and administrative staff and with staff based overseas.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Write and execute statistical analysis plans for all clinical trials.
  2. Collaborate with principal investigators in developing sampling strategies, study designs, and statistical approaches for research proposals.
  3. Write statistical methods and analysis sections of protocols, reports, and peer-reviewed publications; communicate methods and results with team.
  4. Develop and execute procedures to validate and maintain clinical trial statistical data.
  5. Design templates and develop specifications for status reports, analysis tables, graphs, and data listings that meet FDA specifications for use in research publications and ad hoc reporting.
  6. Provide ad hoc statistical support and programming to other research projects.
  7. Supervise junior statistical and data management staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. A Ph.D. in biostatistics or statistics required; master's degree in mathematics, computer science, or related field a plus. A minimum of five years' relevant experience that should include three or more years of clinical research; experience with pharmaceutical clinical trials intended for regulatory submission preferred.
  2. Expertise in SAS, SAS Macro Language, STATA; SQL experience in the use of DataFax a plus.
  3. Knowledge and experience with MedDRA and/or WHOART medical coding dictionaries.
  4. Knowledge of FDA regulations and experience with FDA submission process.
  5. Knowledge of 21 CFR Part 11 guidelines a plus.
  6. Excellent analytical and mathematical skills.
  7. Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  8. Ability to take initiative and work as part of a team.
  9. Supervisory experience.
  10. Demonstrated ability to monitor and maintain project timelines.
  11. Willingness and ability to travel occasionally.
