Sharing Experiences with Comprehensive Responses to Adolescent Reproductive Health Needs in Africa

In francophone West Africa, Council research is promoting the utilization of multisectoral approaches for improving adolescent reproductive health programming by governments, donors, and national and international agencies.

Several initiatives (including the FRONTIERS adolescent reproductive health projects in Kenya and Senegal as well as initiatives conducted by WHO and UNFPA) have sought to provide a comprehensive response to adolescent sexual and reproductive health issues in Africa. These approaches share an integrated, multisectoral approach to adolescent health, strong community involvement, use of experimental study techniques, and use of existing facilities and services. This project seeks to promote the utilization of multisectoral approaches for improving adolescent reproductive health programming by governments, donors, and national and international agencies in francophone West Africa. The project activities include a regional consultative workshop on adolescent reproductive health, development of a guide for youth reproductive health programming, and capacity-building for service-delivery institutions in Burkina Faso and Mauritania.
