Population Council Research that makes a difference

Situation Analysis of the HIV Response Among Young People in Zambia

Council researchers are reviewing HIV and youth programs and policies in Zambia for use in high-level advocacy and to inform the implementation of Zambia's new HIV and AIDS Strategic Framework.

The Population Council is synthesizing and analyzing existing strategic information on HIV and young people in Zambia—including programs, policies, and key partners—and identifying gaps in the evidence and the current HIV response. Methods include a literature review, focus group discussions with youth, and key informant interviews. The project was commissioned by the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) in Zambia and was carried out under the guidance of the Zambia National AIDS Council.

The final report will be used in high-level advocacy and will inform implementation of Zambia's new HIV and AIDS Strategic Framework. It will also support implementation of the business case for the priority area of young people within the UNAIDS Outcome Framework and provide baselines and targets for this area through 2015.
