Introduction of Emergency Contraception into Ministry of Health Programs
In Pakistan, the Council assisted the Ministry of Health in introducing emergency contraception (EC) into its family planning program.
In 2007 and 2008, FRONTIERS supported collaboration among South Asian experts from Bangladesh, India, and Nepal to help the Ministry of Health (MOH) of Pakistan introduce emergency contraception (EC) into its family planning program. Activities included a three-day visit by Pakistani health officials to Bangladesh to introduce them to the EC program and a consultative meeting with experts from South Asia to develop approaches for introducing EC in Pakistan. The method will be introduced first in the 20 districts covered by the USAID-funded Family Advancement for Life and Health project. This project showed that south-to-south collaboration can be effective in introducing culturally sensitive services and concepts.
