PROJECT
Evaluation of Services for Orphans and Vulnerable Children in Tanzania, Uganda, and Mozambique (COPE)

The Population Council provided technical assistance to Africare to design and conduct an assessment of the Community-Based Orphan Care, Protection and Empowerment (COPE) project, which provides support to orphans and vulnerable children and their families in Tanzania, Uganda, and Mozambique.

COPE aims to strengthen the capacity of families and children to meet their needs, by providing a range of interventions designed to enhance community capacity; provide life skills training, peer education, and psychosocial care and support; and increase access to education, health care, nutritional support, and income generating activities.

A baseline survey was conducted in 2006, intended as the first stage in a series of quantitative and qualitative research activities to conduct an impact assessment of the COPE services.
