June 2004 Pakistan Official Visits PCNY Shakil Durrani, Secretary of Pakistan’s Ministry of Population and Welfare, met with Council president Linda Martin and vice president Peter Donaldson on a visit to New York in December 2003. In addition to describing his goals for the ministry, he expressed his gratitude for the Population Council’s research, noting in particular that the Council’s name on a piece of analysis carries a lot of weight. He also stressed the value he places on the expertise and technical advice of Zeba Sathar, head of the Council’s office in Islamabad. Secretary Durrani assumed leadership of the Ministry of Population and Welfare after serving as the chief secretary of the Northwest Frontier Province. Trained as an economist, he has a keen interest in population issues and is working to have primary health and family planning services delivered to every household in Pakistan. See Also |
