Gulmetova presented findings from an impact evaluation of Oportunidades—a nationwide antipoverty intervention in Mexico—on teenage girls' transitions to sexual activity, marriage, and fertility by applying hazard analysis methods. The talk focused on the advantages of using duration modeling to discern program effects when the outcome of interest is timing of multiple decisions of participants. - Poverty, Gender, and Youth Seminar: Esther Duflo on "Pak Sudarno’s big family: Some reflections on population policy in developing countries" (2011)
Duflo shared insights from the newly released Poor Economics: A Radical Rethinking of the Fight Against Global Poverty, co-authored with Abhijit V. Banerjee. She also discussed recent development economics literature on the cause and (individual) consequences of fertility in developing countries. Her troubling findings may prompt discussion on the need for a reappraisal of how best to address population issues among the poor.

Researchers in the Council's Islamabad office carried out a survey of camps for people displaced or homeless by the 2005 earthquake that devastated northern Pakistan. - Project/Vietnam: Youth and Family Studies (2007)
Council researchers conducted a study to understand transitions to adulthood among young people in poor remote areas of northern Vietnam. The study identified areas of intervention that best address the needs of Vietnam’s most marginalized young population.
