The Population Council applies social science expertise toward the better understanding of population problems and promotes applications of that knowledge to the design and implementation of policies and programs responsive to individual and societal needs.

The organization undertakes analyses of population policy, demographic behavior, and the interrelationships between population and socioeconomic change, often with developing-country collaboration.
