Eric Green, Ph.D.

Associate

Eric Green is an associate in the Population Council's Poverty, Gender, and Youth program. He is currently leading the development and evaluation of a mobile health application called Baby Monitor. In addition to his work at the Council, Green is a co-investigator on a three-year impact evaluation of a micro-enterprise development program for young women in northern Uganda (offsite link).

Before joining the Council, Green was a postdoctoral research fellow at the New York University School of Medicine and Bellevue Hospital in the Program for Survivors of Torture. Green has a Ph.D. in clinical-community psychology and an M.A. in international studies from the University of South Carolina.

Green is an adjunct assistant professor of global public health in the NYU master of public health program. In 2009, he was awarded the Excellence in Global Public Health Faculty Award.

Adolescent Policy Analysis, Capacity Building, and Advocacy Project (more)
This project is designed to provide decision-makers, NGOs, youth advocates, UN country representatives, and members of government ministries with the appropriate knowledge and tools to effectively make the case for implementing policies and programs that are evidence-based and targeted at vulnerable subgroups of young people, in particular girls.

This mobile phone application, developed with partners at InSTEDD, takes clinical screening directly to women in the critical period before and after birth using interactive voice response technology to detect complications and take action.

Demographic Data for Development (more)
The first phase of the Demographic Data for Development project consisted of case studies in Ethiopia, Ghana, Senegal, and Uganda to examine accessibility, use, and demand for demographic data. In the second phase of the project, the Council and its partners are working to increase data access and use among journalists and members of the media in Ghana, Senegal, and Namibia.
