Jennifer Catino is an associate with the Population Council's Poverty, Gender, and Youth (PGY) program. Based in New York City, she develops and coordinates targeted adolescent projects, primarily in Latin America.
Prior to joining PGY she was the senior technical advisor to the president and youth programming at EngenderHealth, also based in New York City. At EngenderHealth, she designed and oversaw a global program to improve health and promote the development of vulnerable young people. Previously she served as regional program coordinator with the Gender, Family, and Development program in the Population Council’s Latin America and the Caribbean regional office in Mexico City, Mexico. At the Council, she conducted reproductive health–related research and implemented a program focused on improving maternal and adolescent health, fostering positive male involvement in sexual and reproductive health, and promoting gender equality and the empowerment of girls and women.
Before joining the Population Council, Catino was a project coordinator with Family Care International in New York City, where she was the primary researcher and writer of a publication documenting global progress toward implementing the recommendations from the 1994 International Conference on Population and Development related to sexual and reproductive health. She also worked for John Snow, Inc., in Cambodia on a program to improve family planning and HIV/AIDS prevention services through local NGOs and the public sector.
Catino has a master's in public health in maternal and child health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
