Lauren Katzen
Portfolio Manager
Lauren Katzen, who joined the Population Council in 2006, is the portfolio manager for the Council's HIV and AIDS program.
In this role, Katzen manages operational conduct of the development lifecycle (from preclinical development through clinical testing) of all development candidates in the HIV and AIDS biomedical prevention product pipeline, helping manage all projects and creating lifecycle timelines for each product. She contributes to and supports the development and review of agreements, standard operating procedures, study protocols, investigator brochures, and publications for the HIV and AIDS program.
Prior to her role as portfolio manager, Katzen was a clinical trial specialist responsible for study management, including developing project timelines, study-specific documents, manuals, and standard operating procedures; managing budgets and subawards to trial sites; working with investigators to develop surveys and case report forms; ensuring proper training of site staff; and conducting on-site monitoring in accordance with relevant regulations and guidelines.
Katzen holds an M.P.A. in health policy and management from the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service at New York University, and a B.A. in sociology, Italian studies, and women’s studies from Wheaton College in Massachusetts.
