Saiqa Mullick, M.D.
Senior Associate and Country Director
Saiqa Mullick is a senior associate with the Population Council's Reproductive Health program. She has provided technical oversight to a range of projects addressing the integration of HIV and reproductive health services. She currently serves as country director for the Population Council’s South African office and serves as senior technical advisor to a national project aimed at improving access to postexposure prophylaxis for survivors of sexual assault. Her research interests include reproductive tract infections, including sexually transmitted infections (STIs); maternity care, particularly in the area of syphilis screening and treatment in antenatal care; and integration of HIV into family planning services. Prior to joining the Council, Mullick worked as the deputy director for the Reproductive Health Research Unit in Durban, managing a number of projects aimed at implementing and evaluating interventions in the field of STIs and antenatal care. She also worked on a project aimed at involving men in antenatal and postnatal care as well as on a national initiative aimed at strengthening STI services in South Africa. Mullick worked with the Medical Research Council in South Africa as a senior scientist.
Mullick has published several articles and given presentations at conferences and workshops around the world. She obtained her medical degree at the University of Nairobi and subsequently earned a master's in public health methodology at the University of Brussels and a master's in public health in developing countries at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, University of London. She is currently pursuing a doctorate at the Infectious Disease Epidemiology Unit at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
