Sigma Ainul

Assistant Program Officer

Sigma Ainul has worked for the Population Council since 2009 as a research officer affiliated with the Council's Poverty, Gender, and Youth program.

Her research interests include a range of issues related to education, gender, poverty, migration, and family role and structure. Currently she is involved in the project "Promoting Financial Education through Mentoring Relationships." She has developed financial education curriculums for adolescent girls and manuals for teachers and mentors. This study is part of the larger program of research and programs on transitions to adulthood at the Population Council.

Ainul completed her master's of population sciences (M.P.S.) at the University of Dhaka in 2009. Her thesis, "Typology construction of internal migration to Dhaka City," had a special focus on the role of family structure and marriage in the decisionmaking process of migration.

The Growing Up Safe and Healthy (SAFE) project seeks to provide context-specific strategies for vulnerable adolescents to build their social and health assets, with the eventual goal of improving their lifelong functional capabilities and well-being.
