Stephanie Psaki joined the Council in 2013 and conducts research on girls’ education. Research shows that when girls are educated, they benefit throughout their lives and they share those benefits with their families and communities. Because of the importance of this investment, the Council places a high priority on research and program development around girls’ education. Psaki’s work includes evaluating what works to improve the quality of girls’ education and to maximize the benefits of education to girls and their communities, as well as ensuring that high-quality evidence is used to shape programs.
Before joining the Council, Psaki worked in the Gender Department at FHI 360, providing technical assistance on girls’ education programs, as well as supporting efforts to integrate gender into FHI 360’s programmatic and research portfolios. Prior to that, she worked at the Fogarty International Center at the NIH on an eight-country child health study. As a doctoral student at Johns Hopkins University, she worked on Advance Family Planning, an advocacy project that aims to expand access to quality family planning services globally.
Psaki is a member of the Population Association of America and received the Family Planning Fellowship (2011–2012) and the Edward J. Dehne Award in Population Dynamics (2012–2013) during her doctoral studies. She holds a PhD in women’s health and demography from Johns Hopkins University, and an MS in population and international health from Harvard University.
