Syeda Nazneen Jahan

Senior Research Officer

Syeda Nazneen Jahan has worked for the Population Council, Bangladesh, since May 2011. She is a senior research officer affiliated with the Council's Poverty, Gender, and Youth program. Currently, she is working on Growing Up Safe and Healthy (SAFE), a project addressing sexual and reproductive health rights and violence against women and girls in the urban slums of Bangladesh. She is involved in overall monitoring activities; developing research instruments and training modules on issues of gender and sexual and reproductive health rights; conducting training; maintaining liaisons and networking with project partners and stakeholders; and providing assistance in overall documentation, presentation, and report writing for the project.

Jahan has a keen interest in gender and equity, education, disabilities, youth, and human rights–related issues. Previously she worked in the Gender Resource Center at Democracywatch as a program officer where she was involved in facilitating training, conducting research, and writing reports on issues related to violence against women, gender and governance, and the rights of domestic workers.

Jahan completed her honors and master's in education from the University of Dhaka in 2008. Her thesis, "Speech and language difficulties of children with pervasive developmental disorder: A study on Dhaka City" had a special focus on the roles and perceptions of parents regarding their autistic children.

The Growing Up Safe and Healthy (SAFE) project seeks to provide context-specific strategies for vulnerable adolescents to build their social and health assets, with the eventual goal of improving their lifelong functional capabilities and well-being.
