Robin A. Maguire
Director, Microbicides Product Development
Robin A. Maguire was director of microbicides product development at the Population Council’s Center
for Biomedical Research until she retired in 2008. Maguire was instrumental in developing new
methods to assay microbicides and in the development of the Council’s lead microbicide candidate, Carraguard®.
In 1998 under the direction of Dr. Elof Johansson, she initiated the
product development of Carraguard, collaborating with Council staff to
conduct clinical work. Maguire also writes technical and grant-related
publications and acts as a liaison to the US Food and Drug Administration,
foreign regulatory agencies, industrial partners, and contract
laboratories. Before working at the Council, Maguire served as vice
president and treasurer of Future Decorators, Inc. in Poughkeepsie, New
York. She then launched her own interior design firm, which grew to 17
employees before Maguire sold it to pursue a graduate degree in biology. Maguire
graduated from the California College of Arts and Crafts and has studied
at Pace University and Hunter College. |
