Robin A. Maguire
Director, Microbicides Product Development

Profile

Robin A. Maguire is director of microbicides product development at the Population Council’s Center for Biomedical Research. Maguire was instrumental in developing new methods to assay microbicides and in the development of the Council’s lead microbicide candidate, Carraguard®. In 1998 under the direction of Dr. Elof Johansson, she initiated the product development of Carraguard, collaborating with Council staff to conduct clinical work. Maguire also writes technical and grant-related publications and acts as a liaison to the US Food and Drug Administration, foreign regulatory agencies, industrial partners, and contract laboratories. Before working at the Council, Maguire served as vice president and treasurer of Future Decorators, Inc. in Poughkeepsie, New York. She then launched her own interior design firm, which grew to 17 employees before Maguire sold it to pursue a graduate degree in biology.

Maguire graduated from the California College of Arts and Crafts and has studied at Pace University and Hunter College.
