Ali Mohammad Mir is a medical graduate with a specialization in public health. He began his career working for the Government of Pakistan. Since 1998 he has been associated with the Population Council where he serves as program director in the Council's Islamabad office. Mir has been closely involved in developing capacity within the population and reproductive health sectors in Pakistan. He has developed training programs and imparted training on a wide variety of subjects including research methodology and health systems strengthening. His research interests include quality of care in family planning services, maternal health, and reproductive tract infections.

He is the vice president of the Population Association of Pakistan.

Mir is affiliated with the Population Council's HIV and AIDS program.
