Ways to Contribute to the Population Council

Unrestricted funds
Unrestricted funds enable the Council to channel resources to where they are most needed, address immediate concerns, and anticipate emerging issues.

Unrestricted gifts also help fund dissemination of innovative research to decisionmakers and key audiences around the world and collaborative research, awards, fellowships, and training to build professional resources in developing countries.

Stock contributions
The Population Council welcomes gifts of appreciated securities. Many donors are able to take advantage of the opportunity to lessen their tax liability through gifts of long-term appreciated stock. It is always best to consult your financial or tax advisor to determine how such a gift might affect your individual circumstances and, at the same time, increase the level of support you are able to contribute. Please contact the Population Council's Director of Development for information on transfers of securities to the Council.

Wire transfers
Contact Ruth Kalla Ungerer (rungerer@popcouncil.org) for information on wire transfers.

Matching gifts by your employer
Many businesses match employee charitable contributions. To help maximize your gift, please inquire about whether your company offers this special benefit and forward your company's completed form to the Population Council.

Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) gifts
If you are a government or military employee, you may designate the Population Council as the recipient of a contribution. Simply use the Population Council code number 11044 when making your gift.

Bequests and other planned giving vehicles
There are numerous ways to provide sustaining support for the Population Council's work, including bequests, charitable remainder and lead trusts, gifts of life insurance, and designations of the Council as beneficiary of a pension plan. A bequest can be simply stated in a will, "I give and bequeath to the Population Council __ percent of my total estate (or $___, or other property)."

Consultation with your financial or tax advisor can help you decide which giving vehicle would best serve your financial and philanthropic objectives. The Director of Development would be pleased to talk with you about giving options that can help future generations benefit from the Council's population research in the decades ahead.
