Condom use doubles in Mumbai but still barely two of every 10 males opt for it

The Times of India reports on an increase in male participation in family planning, citing findings from the new National Family Health Survey, which show that condom use has increased in the past five years, while female sterilizations and oral contraceptive pill use has marginally dropped.

Council Associate II, Rajib Acharya, notes that “[The] changes are seen in urban and rural areas of the 22 states and UTs surveyed.”

However, results from the survey show that while more men in the past five years have shown a willingness to take more responsibility for contraception, it is still the primary responsibility of female partners throughout India.
