Dr. Sitruk-Ware highlights recent contraceptive innovations from the Population Council, including Annovera™, a one-year contraceptive vaginal ring approved by the FDA this year, and a newly-launched Phase IIb clinical trial of a novel male contraceptive gel. Investing in innovative contraceptive options, she notes, can help alleviate critical access challenges and expand choice.
We are seeing a shift in how couples are approaching responsibilities when it comes to contraceptive care. More and more, men – particularly those in committed relationships – are looking for ways to have an active role in family planning, and couples are deciding on solutions together based on their lifestyle needs.
We have an opportunity to help simplify contraceptive care and address user needs through innovation. I’m excited to see new non-invasive methods and more user-controlled options, such as gels as opposed to injections, which I think will have a positive impact on user willingness to use contraception.
Dr. Sitruk-Ware was named one of the 50 most influential people in health care in 2018 by TIME for her innovative significant contributions to the contraceptive development field.
