The Lancet HIV featured a Comment by Population Council experts that proposes a new framework for enhancing informed choice, effective use, and quality service provision around PrEP for adolescent girls and young women (AGYW). Sanyukta Mathur, Nanlesta Pilgrim and Julie Pulerwitz write that PrEP offers an opportunity for AGYW to access a promising new prevention technology.
“[PrEP] is a new biomedical intervention that has the potential to substantially reduce HIV acquisition among those most vulnerable to HIV. PrEP could greatly increase AGYW’s ability to protect themselves from HIV, if they are able to effectively access and use it.”
